Scopely’s casino hit Monopoly Go has enlisted A-list star power, with Jason Momoa, Chris Pratt and Keke Palmer all appearing in its latest game trailer.
Comedian Will Ferrell has also come aboard to voice Mr. Monopoly and is due to reprise his role in future advertising campaigns as part of a broader “long-term creative concept”.
In addition to the main trailer, over 20 videos featuring these actors have been created in the “Friendship Pays” campaign, set to appear on social media and other digital platforms. Two 45-second TV spots were also recorded.
Playing together
Scopely’s latest campaign comes as Monopoly Go’s player spending has fallen to a 15-month low, down 58% from its peak this October. Through the power of a star-studded lineup, Scopely said it hopes to celebrate the social and competitive elements of its record-smashing game.
Monopoly Go introduced its first team-based multiplayer events this summer, where players race cars around the board to accumulate points for their group. The new star-studded trailer likely references this, with Mr. Monopoly driving Momoa, Pratt, and Palmer around in his car.
“My approach to playing Monopoly Go is similar to how I play the bass, creating harmony to bring everyone together for a good time,” said Momoa.
“I’m so stoked to be collaborating with Monopoly Go because playing with friends is my favourite pastime, and who better to team up with than Keke, Chris, and Mr. Monopoly himself.”
Pratt commented on the campaign: “Monopoly Go is all about playing with friends, which we don’t get to do enough of in our busy lives. It’s been fun to team up with a game that is so social and provides opportunities to go on zany adventures with friends – while knocking down their properties and charging them rent.”
Palmer added: “I’m so happy to team up with Monopoly Go, a game that is all about camaraderie and excitement and, of course, your daily dose of friendly competition.”
A-list advertising
Celebrities endorsing mobile games have become an increasingly prevalent advertising trend this year, with Chris Hemsworth, Ken Jeong and Will Arnett appearing among a cast of actors in a comedic Squad Busters’ launch trailer this May.
Shortly after, Kit Harrington was showered with Jon Snow-related quips this August in a trailer for Zynga’s Game of Thrones: Legends.
Monopoly Go itself even featured musical artists during its first anniversary, with a player contest featuring Bon Jovi, J Balvin and Natalie Jane.
