Monster Hunter Now is kickstarting its first collab with an external brand this weekend, introducing a “deep” crossover with the world’s biggest YouTube creator, MrBeast.
Beginning July 27th, players will be issued a new quest line in which they will help MrBeast through a series of challenges, unlocking monster materials, a powerful new weapon, and an exclusive Hunter Medal in the process.
There’s even clothing based on real MrBeast merch, selected by the philanthropic content creator and adapted by Niantic for the AR game.
These various rewards will still be available to use after the event concludes on September 2nd, provided a player has unlocked them by that date; MrBeast branding will therefore remain a permanent part of Monster Hunter Now.
The power of collaboration
Monster Hunter Now featured its first-ever collab this June with Monster Hunter Stories, but the MrBeast crossover marks the game’s first time introducing an external brand.
In working with MrBeast and developing the quest and rewards, Niantic has aimed to go far beyond a surface-level collab and hopes to bring “meaningful integration” in-game.
Part of this effort is embodied in one of Now’s strongest new non-elemental weapons, a Sword & Shield designed with MrBeast. This weapon has an exclusive skill called MrBeast Challenge! and unique animations in the YouTuber’s colours.
MrBeast currently has over 305 million YouTube subscribers – more than anyone else on the platform – and generates more than three billion views per month. The collaboration represents a huge opportunity for Monster Hunter Now to further grow its audience, a factor the development team kept in mind when creating the new Sword & Shield.
It has been designed as an accessible but powerful weapon with straightforward upgrades to Grade 6, which is reliably obtainable provided players engage with the MrBeast quests.
“Monster Hunter Now is super fun and also encourages people to go outside, explore, and get active,” said Jimmy Donaldson, AKA MrBeast. “Working with Niantic on my very own Monster Hunter Now quest line has been fantastic. I love that they partner with creators and trust them to know how to reach their audience.”
Niantic senior director of product marketing Archit Bhargava added: “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Jimmy and the MrBeast team to bring a unique quest line and MrBeast content to Monster Hunter Now.
“We’re constantly looking to bring exciting and fresh content to the game, and this collaboration is something that appeals both to veteran players and new players alike.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time MrBeast has crossed over into a mobile game; he also collaborated with My Talking Tom 2 during the title’s 10th anniversary.
