Like previous entries in the series, Mortal Kombat 1 is rolling out plenty of DLC fighters, with the game’s first “Kombat Pack” including Omni-Man from Invincible, Quan Chi, Peacemaker from Suicide Squad, Ermac, Homelander from The Boys, and Takahashi Takeda.
The second of these DLC characters, which was just added to the game yesterday, is Quan Chi. But how does this longstanding Mortal Kombat villain play? And perhaps more importantly, how do you pull off his gruesome Fatalities? Don’t worry, we’ll quickly get you up to speed on the ins and outs of Quan Chi…
As you can see, each Fatality has to be performed a certain distance away from your opponent. If you want to get a better sense of what we mean by “close,” “mid,” and “far,” just choose Learn from the main menu then pop into Fatalities, and the game will show you the exact ranges you need to be standing at. Every fighter in MK1 has a pair of Fatalities – one that’s available from the start and one that won’t be added to your move list until you unlock them (here’s how you can do that). That said, you can still do all Fatalities, even if they haven’t been officially unlocked, if you know the right inputs.
Here’s how to pull of Quan Chi’s two Fatalities:
- Pentamagic Trick – Forward, Back, Forward, Back, Back Punch (Mid)
- Fatality 2 – Down, Forward, Back, Back Kick (Mid)
Looking beyond the Fatalities, most of Quan Chi’s abilities revolve around being able to summon portals which he can attack his opponent through (similar to the classic Spider-Man villain the Spot). This makes him a great keepaway fighter, similar to Shang Tsung. Try to stay as far away from your opponent as possible and zone them out with long-range attacks, tricky portal moves, and traps. Yes, your opponent is going to be cursing your name, but a win’s a win.
