Ed Boon, the creator of the Mortal Kombat series and the rumored Mortal Kombat 1 reboot, has taken to Twitter to tease something “fun” coming later this week.
Now let’s start off by saying that Boon has often been spotted trolling social media, but the Mortal Kombat creator isn’t known for giving false hopes to fans. As most of you will know, last week, renowned leaker ‘billbil-kun’ claimed that Mortal Kombat 1 is the next entry in the series from Boon’s studio NetherRealm. Later on, Windows Central’s Jez Corden backed up this leak and shared some additional info about the game, which is said to be a reboot for the series with a release date this September. Fast forward one week, and we now have Boon teasing..something in the shape of an “L” accompanied by a dragon emoticon, which is likely a reference to the franchise’s iconic dragon logo.
“T H I S W E E K SHOULD BE FUN”, Boon tweeted some hours ago. Unfortunately, more information wasn’t shared just yet, but it’s likely that we’ll be hearing more about the upcoming Mortal Kombat 12 (or 1) later this week.

Although not officially unveiled just yet, the next Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 12, was mentioned in one of the most recent Warner Bros. Discovery’s earnings calls with investors.
“And consistent with our overall commitment to great storytelling, we delayed the launch to get it right”, CEO David Zaslav told investors back in February of this year. “And the response from consumers has been overwhelmingly positive. We’ve already seen more than $850 million in retail sales, and we still have more platforms launching over the next few months.”
The executive continued, “And there’s lots more to come, including the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad – Kill The Justice League, games also set for release this year with ambitious launch projections.”
We’ll update you as soon as more information about the next entry in the fighting franchise comes in.
