Remember Konami’s Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for the Nintendo 64? Someone has now released a native PC port from the game’s Japanese version.
Last month we reported on a native recompiled PC port of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask following the release of a new tool that makes use of static recompilation to automatically translate an application from one platform to another. Fast forward one month, and there’s now a recompiled PC version of N64’s Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon with support for 60FPS and widescreen. As spotted by X user @rondleman, on the Goeman Discord server, user ‘Klorfmorf’ released this new native PC port of the game, and going by the comments, fans are really happy that this classic can now be played at a proper 60FPS. Although this is native version of the Japanese ROM, it appears to support for the English ROM might be coming later on. Interestingly enough, the start-up screen of the recompiled project also mentions that support for Goemon’s Great Adventure is “coming soon”.
For those unfamiliar with the Goemon games – Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is the sequel to The Legend of Mystical Ninja, and is the second game in the franchise that was released in Europe and the US. Goemon’s Great Adventure is the sequel to 1997/1998’s Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, and is also known as Mystical Ninja 2 Starring Goemon.
Those interested can find the download link for the recompiled Japanese version of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon here. As said, players will need to own a legal version of the Japanese ROM of the game in order to run this recompilation.
