Netflix‘s multimedia expansion continues with another new tie-in title coming to its mobile games catalogue later this month.
Four days after the upcoming Netflix film The Electric State’s release, narrative-driven mobile game The Electric State: Kid Cosmo is set to launch on March 18th as a prequel title and 80s-style puzzle adventure.
The mobile game has been developed in collaboration with AGBO and Buck Game and will be made available exclusively to Netflix subscribers as the streaming giant continues its push into the industry. Netflix has stated that Kid Cosmo will be a game within a game about collecting modules to fix the titular character’s ship.
As reported by our sister-site PocketGamer.com, The Electric State: Kid Cosmo’s narrative will focus on characters Michelle and Chris (played by Millie Bobby Brown and Woody Norman in the film) over a five-year period prior to the start of the film.
Building brands
Netflix is no stranger to adapting its shows into mobile games, leveraging hit IPs in new forms and often utilising games to keep fans interested in a franchise during the wait for a new season, as seen with Stranger Things: 1984, Vikings: Valhalla and more.
More recently, Squid Game: Unleashed released just before the hit show’s second season in December 2024 and surpassed 10 million downloads in less than a month, making it one of Netflix’s most downloaded mobile games of all time.
As part of recent restructuring at the firm, the streaming giant recently cancelled the launches of six upcoming games to its service, including cross-platform title Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game.
A Netflix spokesperson confirmed that it has been “adjusting” its portfolio in response to learnings about “what our members like”. This appears to mean a renewed focus on the company’s own IPs.
