Apple has applied for a new battery with the designation A2389 to be approved with the regulatory bodies in China and Denmark, which may signal that a new MacBook Air is coming soon.
The new battery has a capacity of 49.9 watt hours, which corresponds to the battery used in the current model of MacBook Air. The model number – A2389 – is different to that used for the last few MacBook Air generations, according to MacRumors.
The big question is what kind of processor will: Apple has announced that it will begin the transition to its own processors in the autumn. The new MacBook Air is widely expected to be one of the first Macs to transition along with the 13in MacBook Pro.
Currently the 49.9Wh battery provides around 11 hours of battery life for web browsing and up to 12 hours for watching movies. The new Silicon processor could improve battery life even if Apple doesn’t change the battery rating.
