One of the long-shot inclusions on our new Apple products coming in December list, the next MacBook Air is hotly anticipated. It’ll probably have to wait until the new year – but what can we expect in terms of design?
MacRumors has put together a summary of credible rumours about the new MacBook Air, based on the latest reports from analysts and experts.
Reportedly, there may be a white bezel around the screen, which might scare off some potential buyers. We’ve already heard that the laptop will be released in a range of colours, namely blue, green, pink, silver, yellow, orange and purple. But the frame itself will be white, whichever colour you choose for the chassis.
There is every indication that we will see the same kind of mini-LED screen found in the new MacBook Pro models and, unfortunately, there will be a notch at the top to accommodate the webcam. So if the frame is white, the notch will be white too.
Furthermore, the classic wedge shape will be eliminated, in order to create room for more ports. However, there will be no support for HDMI or a built-in card reader.
On the inside, we expect to find an M2 processor chip. And the new machine could be named simply ‘MacBook’, which would mean the Air brand is being retired (on the MacBook at least) after being in use since 2008.
The current model of MacBook Air was launched in November 2020, but it is highly uncertain when the successor will be launched. Apple usually holds events in March, June and September, so at worst it could be another nine months away.
