While the deals and the stats of the gaming world are important, nothing would happen without the research, funding and, of course, development that goes into making a great game.
So here’s a collection of the most exciting new mobile games right now, the developers and publishers behind them, and why, exactly, they’ve made the cut.
DC: Dark Legion
FunPlus has tapped the DC superhero licence for DC: Dark Legion on mobile.
The title currently has over 200 superheroes and supervillains for players to recruit and upgrade to build a team of champions and save Gotham City from the Dark Multiverse. The title features PvP battles against players from around the world.
Expelled!
Indie games studio inkle has a new whodunnit on Steam, Switch and iOS called Expelled! The title lands players in the awkward shoes of the accused after a school prefect was pushed from a window, and gives them just eight in-game hours to clear their name.
inkle’s built the game with multiple playthroughs in mind, with each run taking up to 45 minutes and revealing new insights to make better-informed choices next time around. Ultimately, it all leads to uncovering the mystery of the true culprit – almost like a roguelite in visual novel form.
Hill Climb Racing Lite
Hill Climb Racing Lite marks the latest entry in the near 13-year-old physics-based driving series, taking on a new form via its soft launch on Poki.com. Now offering a web-based way to play via HTML5, the series’ accessibility has further expanded from mobile to any device with a browser, as developer Fingersoft looks to keep growing the brand.
Speed and performance are also names of the game, plus new features like a portrait mode giving unique incentives for mobile players to try out the Lite version too.
Be Brave, Barb
Delivering good vibes and questionable therapy, Dadish developer Thomas K. Young has launched a brand-new mobile game in Be Brave, Barb. Diverting from radishes for a change, this time around players can take on the role of a cactus who’s lost her positive affirmations.
That leaves it up to gamers to find all those positive affirmations for Barb over 100 levels, facing fears, overcoming evil, vanquishing bosses and defying gravity because: “who cares”. Funky tunes are promised too.
Wall World
Originally a 2023 title on PC and console, Alawar’s Wall World is the latest game to make the move to mobile – at least for Play Store users. The expansion gives that many more people the chance to face down monster hordes, mine for materials, and discover many ranging environments atop a giant robo-spider.
Combining tower defence gameplay and roguelite mechanics, the game offers practically endless play with procedurally generated mines to explore.
Lara Croft: Guardian of Light
Crystal Dynamics’ premium game Lara Croft: Guardian of Light brings battles, puzzles and platforming action back to mobile in an adventure through the Mexican jungle. There are many traps to overcome on the way through temples, swamps and volcanic caverns – all to be conquered to put a stop to Keeper of Darkness Xolotl.
Lara Croft: Guardian of Light is back again courtesy of Feral Interactive Ltd, with solo and co-op capers available now in the Tomb Raider world.
