This morning, modder MerseyRockoff published a new, interesting The Witcher 3 mod on Nexus. The mod restores a series of boat races cut from the final game, leveraging the recent release of the REDKit tool made by CD Projekt RED.
The modder explained:
With the release of REDkit, 100% of the boat race script was found in the game files, which allowed for the restoration process to begin. Only the text and audio files were found; the rest were created from scratch based on CDPR’s writing and careful examination of the files. This means that all the conversations, characters, notices, and journal entries featured in the mod were originally written by CDPR but re-created and brought to life by me using REDkit. This The Witcher 3 mod only supports English localization at the time of the release. Support for other languages is planned in a future update.
There are 4 races (Regattas) in the game now:
Novigrad Regatta – Start from the Novigrad Harbor notice board.
Oxenfurt Regatta – Start from the Oxenfurt notice board.
Helmsman’s Dash – Start from the Kaer Trolde village notice board.
Rally of the Wrecks – Start from Holmstein’s notice board, but the races take place on Faroe.
You can also go directly to the start location, skipping the notice boards if you know where they are, and speak with the race master/mistress.
The mod works with the classic version of The Witcher 3 as well as the enhanced ‘next-gen’ version. The installation process is fairly simple; you will need to copy the downloaded modBoatRaces folder to your The Witcher 3\mods folder. Then, copy the dlcBoatRaces folder to your The Witcher 3\dlc folder. Lastly, check for conflicts with the Script Merger tool, merging if necessary.
To uninstall the mod, simply delete the related folders. However, the modder warns against doing so while one of the boat race quests is active.
