Big Sur is still in beta, but Safari 14 is already available for the two previous versions of macOS.
14 seems to be a trendy number at Apple at the moment: iOS 14, iPadOS 14 and the A14 chip for the new iPad Air. And now there is edition 14 of Safari.
No, macOS 11 Big Sur is not here yet, but Apple has released the new version of the browser for macOS Catalina and Mojave.
To install Safari 14, just go to Software Update. Either click on the Apple logo in the top left corner, or open System Preferences.
According to Apple, Safari is currently the fastest browser on the Mac and, for example, loads websites 50 percent faster than Chrome. In addition, Safari should consume less energy and last an hour longer than Chrome and Firefox until the battery of a MacBook is empty. Apple has also closed four security holes in Webkit.
Other new features include the tabs, which are reduced to the page icon on many open pages. If you move the mouse over a tab, a small page preview appears.
Also new is the start page, to which elements can be added manually, including pages from the reading list and a background image.
There is also a privacy icon in the toolbar. If you click on it, you can see which trackers are available on the current website and how many trackers are blocked by Safari.
