Anyone playing Pokemon Go on their iPhone can now unlock a much smoother playing experience.
As The Verge reports, developer Niantic just released a new version (1.191.0) of Pokemon Go for iOS, and with it quietly added the ability to unlock the frame rate beyond the previous lock of 30fps. The option can be found in the Advanced Settings of the app where you can tap a Native Refresh Setting, which will then display a green tick and the message “Native refresh rate unlocked.”
How much of a difference this makes to your playing experience will depend on the iPhone being used. More recent handsets such as the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, will benefit the most from a much smoother scrolling experience and camera movement.
The 1.191.0 update also adds a number of undefined quality-of-life improvements, new Trainer Achievement categories for raids, and reminds players that support for iOS 12 is ending soon so an upgrade to iOS 15 is advised. The unlocked frame rate is definitely the feature that will grab everyone’s attention, though, especially if you’re playing the game on an iPhone 13 Pro or Pro Max with a 120Hz ProMotion display.
