A lot has been said about the level of performance expected out of the Nintendo Switch 2 console, but it seems like the console will have a hard time matching the Xbox Series S performance, according to a notable leaker.
Speaking on X/Twitter, well-known AMD leaker Kepler talked about the level of performance that will be delivered by the console’s T239 chip, saying that there’s no way it could perform on par with the Xbox Series S, the current generation’s less powerful system. Even regarding ray tracing performance, the Xbox Series S would still come out on top. The rumored Ray Reconstruction support, however, could make the Nintendo Switch 2 ray tracing performance better than the Series S.
There is no way T239 can reach XSS performance.

Elaborating further, the leaker, who proved to have ample knowledge about hardware, does not doubt that the Nintendo Switch 2 T239 chip would still lose to the Xbox Series S even if it were a desktop SoC with 50W TDP. Again, NVIDIA DLSS support could still even things out, as the leaker is clearly talking about raw performance without upscaling.
It’s not “pie in the sky” it’s just outright wrong. If T239 was a desktop SoC with 50W TDP and 2GHz clocks it would still lose to the XSS.

As the Nintendo Switch 2 is now rumored to be released early next year, it will likely take longer to know more about the console and what it will be capable of doing. According to rumors, the system has been ready to launch for a while, giving more credence to the reports saying that it was delayed to have enough stock ready for launch and avoid what happened with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, which were impossible to find in stores even months after launch.
