If you were planning on buying an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset this month, it’s worth holding off until Aug. 24 because Facebook decided to double the internal storage.
The existing base model of the Quest 2 includes 64GB of storage, which can’t be expanded upon. The updated model will ship with 128GB of internal storage, but the price is remaining the same at $299. That’s going to be frustrating to hear for anyone who recently purchased a 64GB model.
Facebook hasn’t been selling the virtual reality headset since last month due to some owners experiencing skin irritation in the form of face rashes, swelling, burning, itching, hives, and bumps. The removable foam that touches your face when the headset is worn seems to be the cause and the 128GB models will no doubt come with the new silicone cover to solve the problem.
The Oculus Quest 2 is an impressive headset with no cables required, a sharp display, powerful processor, and accurate motion tracking. Its one let down is short battery life, offering no more than three hours before a recharge is required. A doubling of storage without a price hike is very welcome, but I think many users would also like to see the battery life improved.
