Finance company OP Financial Group has joined Supercell as a key partner of Hive.
The move will allow the commercial bank to support the development of the next generation of tech talent in Finland.
Hive is a private, tuition-free coding school in Helsinki that uses a self-directed, peer-to-peer learning model with no teachers or traditional classrooms.
In just five years, it has helped 245 people launch tech careers in Finland, many of them international students or those changing careers without prior coding experience.
Over 100 companies have hired graduates, and the program takes 1.5 years to complete. Both Supercell and OP Financial Group view their support for Hive as a long-term investment in Finland’s future.
A true passion project
“I’m really happy to welcome OP Financial Group as a Key Partner of Hive Helsinki, alongside Supercell,” said Supercell CEO Ilkka Paananen in a LinkedIn post.
“Hive has been a true passion project for us, and I’m happy that we’ve found another committed partner to help ensure Finland stays competitive when it comes to the best talent.
He added: “Employer feedback has been outstanding. We built Hive to serve the entire Finnish tech ecosystem, and we’re proud of the impact it’s had so far.”
OP Financial Group president and group CEO Timo Ritakallio commented: “We’ve long had to look internationally to fill IT roles. The reality is that without labour-based immigration, we won’t be able to sustain our welfare state.
“That’s why initiatives like Hive, which make coding education accessible regardless of background, are so critical for Finland’s competitiveness.”
