The “Pokemon with guns” open-world survival game Palworld has been on one a hell of a run since launching last week, smashing records and generating plenty of controversy, but once all the fevered excitement dies down just a little, what comes next? Palworld is still in early access, so there are plenty more updates to come, and today developer PocketPair provided a bit of a roadmap.
In the near term, PocketPair isn’t setting their sights too high, as they look to address various bugs, improve Pal AI and more. Longer term, they have a number of more ambitious plans, including introducing PvP complete with crossplay, end-game Raid bosses, new Pals and locations to explore, and some additional Xbox features to bring it up to parity with PC. Here’s a rundown of what to expect…
“We would like to share with you our roadmap for Palworld. Sales have far exceeded the development team’s expectations, and we are currently experiencing many problems due to excessive access congestion, among other challenges. We will prioritize improving this issue first, and then move on to implementing new in-game features. Thank you for your understanding.”
Addressing Critical Issues
- Currently, numerous bugs have been identified, and we are prioritizing fixing those.
- Sometimes, the world date may experience rollbacks.
- The loading screen may persist when trying to load into worlds.
- …and so on.
Improvements to Implement ASAP
- Key configuration improvements.
- Improvements to base Pal AI and pathing.
Planned Future Updates
- PvP
- Raid Bosses (End-Game Content)
- Pal Arena (PvP for Pals)
- Steam-Xbox Crossplay
- Various Xbox Feature Improvements
- Server Transfers and Migrations
- Improvements to the Building System
- New islands, Pals, Bosses, and Technologies
No particular timeline has been provided for these updates, although hopefully, this is stuff we can see addressed/added in the next year or so. It’s also not known when Palworld aims to leave early access, but considering the sales already rolling in, I’m guessing PocketPair aren’t in too much of a hurry.
Palworld is available now in early access on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
