We don’t know when Microsoft intends to release Windows 11, but when it does, there’s a very good chance Mac owners will be able to run it, too.
Apple ended support for Boot Camp on Macs with the switch to Apple Silicon, but support for running Windows 10 on an M1 Mac continues through well-known hardware virtualization solution Parallels Desktop. Now the company is working to ensure Windows 11 support in time for the new operating system’s launch.
Speaking to iMore, Nick Dobrovolskiy, SVP of Engineering and Support said, “Since Windows 11 has just been announced recently, the Parallels Engineering team is waiting for the official Windows 11 Insider Preview build to start studying changes introduced in the new OS to deliver full compatibility in future Parallels Desktop updates.”
Parallels as a company has been around since 1999 and the first version of Parallels Desktop launched in 2006. It’s now up to version 16 and provides access to WIndows on macOS High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina, and Big Sur. Testing is ongoing to support the next version of macOS 12 (Monterey), and it would be a brave person who bet against them achieving full support for Windows 11 if not in time for the launch, shortly afterwards.
