Nintendo’s latest Pokemon release takes less than an hour to complete as one speedrunner has already proven.
Many Switch owners will have spent the Thanksgiving weekend losing many hours to the new Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl games. At the same time, speedrunners have been hard at work trying to complete either game as quickly as possible. As TechRaptor reports, one speedrunner has already got the time down below 51 minutes.
As the video below demonstrates, speedrunner Werster managed to complete Pokemon Shining Pearl in just 50 minutes and 36 seconds.
Such a fast run required using eight different glitches identified in the game, they are “Menu storage (and double/triple variants of it), Door Storage, Cutscene Clipping to OoB, Trainer-Menu Storage, Poke Doll Battles, Surf on Land, Early E4, Fast Cynthia.”
Pokemon Shining Pearl and Brilliant Diamond are expected to give regular players more than 30 hours of enjoyment, but it looks as though Werster is set on reducing his speedrun time even further. In the description of the video he admits, “This run was far from perfect.”
If you also consider the game has only been available for a week, there’s likely many more glitches to find and shortcuts to discover. Nintendo may thwart getting the time down further if it releases game updates that fix the glitches, but by the time it does, we’ll likely have an even lower game completion time recorded.
