Sleep tracking app Pokémon Sleep has surpassed $140 million in 1.5 years since its launch, thanks overwhelmingly to player spending in Japan.
As of Pokémon Sleep’s year-and-a-half anniversary on January 17th, 2024, the title had made $144.3 million gross worldwide according to AppMagic estimates. Players in Japan contributed $104.9 million of that total or 73% of global earnings.
The country’s spending share has remained consistent for some time, with the United States and Taiwan remaining behind in second and third place at 14% and 4% respectively.
As of the year-and-a-half anniversary, this equated to $19.9 million and $4.9 million in gross player spending from the US and Taiwan respectively.
A sleeper hit
Pokémon Sleep launched globally on July 17th, 2023 as the first new mobile Pokémon title in nearly two years. Following Tencent’s 2021 MOBA Pokémon Unite, Sleep became something of a sleeper hit, generating almost double Unite’s mobile revenue and ranking as the third most lucrative Pokémon mobile game prior to TCG Pocket’s prosperous launch.
As a result of TCG Pocket – now the second biggest behind Go – Pokémon Sleep has slipped into fourth with its $144.3 million, still no small feat for a year-and-a-half’s earnings.
After Sleep generated $56.2 million in its first six months, it proceeded past $100 million just one week before its first anniversary. Hitting $144.3 million 1.5 years in marks something of a slowdown, therefore.
The title still regularly reaches above $300,000 in daily revenue, though it has failed to surpass $500,000 since September 9th, 2024.
Sleep’s slowdown has largely resulted from fewer spending surges on major events rather than a noticeable ongoing decline.
Revenue previously saw sudden boosts with events like Entei Research, for example, which introduced a popular Legendary Pokémon on May 20th, 2024. Daily player spending accelerated by 179% to $820,000 that same day.
Fast-forward to 2025, and smaller-scale events like Super Skill Week saw daily revenue spike by 75% on January 20th to just $205,000, still a noteworthy rise but much less so than last year’s Legendary events. The game’s next event, Good Sleep Day, is scheduled for February 11th.
1.5-year anniversary gifts are also available in-game until April 8th, adding further incentives to log in and sleep.
“Thanks to support from all of you researchers, Pokémon Sleep has reached its 1.5-year anniversary! Thank you for enjoying your sleep research with Snorlax and other Pokémon,” the Pokémon Sleep team said.
