There’s a serious problem with the electric Porsche Taycan, and the only way to fix it is with a visit to a local repair center. Porsche has therefore had no choice other than to recall all 43,000 of these electric vehicles to ensure the update gets installed.
As Reuters reports, the Taycan EV is suffering from a sudden electric engine shutdown problem, which 130 vehicles have experienced so far. Porsche has identified the issue and created a software update to stop it from happening, but unfortunately for both the company and Taycan owners, it’s not an update that can be installed over-the-air. A visit to a local repair center is required, with the update taking about an hour.
The recall is global and includes US owners. The US Department of Transportation issued an action report that states there’s an estimated 12,146 electric Taycans in the US and so far nine complaints have been reported. They describe the problem as “Loss of motive power while in motion at any speed without warning to the driver.” In all cases the car displays a battery fault error message, and of the nine complaints received, six owners reported being unable to restart their vehicle after it happened.
If you own a Taycan EV, get in touch with your local dealer if they haven’t contacted you already. This is the type of problem to get fixed as quickly as possible because you can’t predict when it’s going to happen and what dangerous situation it could place you in.
