Sony’s PlayStation 5 isn’t coming out until the end of the year, but announcements for PS5 games already coming in hot and heavy. We already know that it will be backwards compatible with most of the 4,000+ game PS4 catalog, which should alleviate some of the launch day troubles that plague most consoles.

PlayStation consoles have always been known for their fantastic lineup of exclusive games, and Sony revealed a ton of new game trailers during its June 11 event. Here are all of the upcoming PlayStation 5 games announced so far, plus a few more that we expect to hear more about soon.
Still don’t have a PS4? Now’s a great time to pick up a PlayStation 4 Slim bundle or 4K-ready PlayStation 4 Pro bundle at a heavy discount!
Confirmed PS5 games
Grand Theft Auto V
During its June 11 game reveal event, Sony showed a trailer for Grand Theft Auto V and announced that an “expanded and enhanced” version of the game would come to the PlayStation 5 in 2021. Sony announced that anyone who owned the PS4 version of Grand Theft Auto V will get a free upgrade to the PS5 version.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
There’s a new Spider-Man game coming to the PS5 called Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The game, as the title suggests, will focus on the story of Miles Morales and is set to launch at the end of 2020.
Gran Turismo 7
It wouldn’t be a PlayStation event without a Gran Turismo game, and Polyphony showed off a new game in the franchise that looks absolutely stunning. It’s not a side GT game either, as the title was officially revealed as Gran Turismo 7, the next major game in the long-running racing franchise.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Sony showed off a new game from the long-running Ratchet and Clank franchise. It looks to feature the same intense gameplay fans of the franchise have grown to love over the years. The game is called Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. The game looks absolutely fantastic.
Project Athia
Square Enix announced a new title called Project Athia. The teaser doesn’t tell us much about the game, other than that it was designed exclusively for the PS5 and that it features some pretty incredible looking graphics.
Stray
The Stray trailer kicks off with a cat walking around some sort of interesting world that’s completely inhabited by robots. The cat lets out a meow and we’re treated with the title card of the game, Stray, which is coming in 2021. The trailer didn’t tell us much, but the game certainly looks intriguing.
Returnal
Sony showed off a gorgeous new shooter called Returnal. In it, the main character is forced to live a loop of their death over and over. It looks dark and interesting.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Sackboy is back in Sackboy: A Big Adventure. The Little Big Planet star looks to be back in his own platformer that doesn’t seem to be focused on building, but rather, just on gameplay. The trailer shows off four-player co-op, and it looks quite fun.
Destruction AllStars
A rather interesting new car combat game called Destruction Allstars was shown off at the June 11 event. It was only a quick teaser trailer, so it didn’t give too much away. However, we did see a rather interesting art style and some intense action sequences. It looks like Twisted Metal and Rocket League had an extremely violent baby.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
The next game comes from a small team titled Kena: Bridge of Spirits. It looks like an action-platformer with elements of Pikmin sprinkled in. From the brief bits of gameplay we saw, it looks like a promising game with some deep mechanics.
Goodbye Volcano High
The next game coming out in 2021 is called Goodbye Volcano High. It looks like a playable cartoon with a stunning art style. It seems to be the sort of game that’ll tug on your emotions, which is a nice change of pace from the action-focused games shown off throughout the event.
Oddworld Soulstorm
Oddworld is back in a big way in the reveal of Oddworld Soulstorm. This game looks absolutely stunning on the PS5, and it’s easily one of the games I’m most excited to play when it comes out.
GhostWire: Tokyo
The next game on the list looks absolutely crazy. It’s called Ghostwire Tokyo and it’s coming in 2021. The art style is intense, and it looks like the gameplay meshes with that visual style perfectly. The trailer was fairly quick, but it definitely gave off a positive first impression.
JETT: The Far Shore
The next game is called JETT: The Far Shore, which is coming in at the end of 2020. It looks like a space exploration game from a side-scrolling perspective.
Godfall
Gearbox is jumping into the mix with an exciting third-person action game called Godfall. It looks good, and it’s definitely one of the most exciting games coming during Holiday 2020. The game definitely has some Dark Souls-like combat but with the loot of a game like Borderlands. It sounds like a winning combination.
Solar Ash
From Annapurna, the creators of the beloved Hyper Light Drifter, comes a new game called Solar Ash. It’s set to release in 2021, and we don’t know much else about it. The art style looks great, but other than that, we’ll have to wait to learn more.
Hitman 3
Agent 47 is back in Hitman 3, as the game was announced for January 2021. It’s slated to be the final game in this leg of the Hitman series, so it’s quite exciting. In addition to a trailer, IO showed off some gameplay. It looks to feature all the sneaking, blending, and killing that fans of the franchise have come to expect.
Astro’s Playroom
The adorable bots are back in a new game called Astro’s Playroom. This was another quick trailer that didn’t tell us much about the game, but it looks like a cute experience with lots of different activities.
Little Devil Inside
To call Little Devil Inside a weird-looking game would be an understatement, but it also looks quite gorgeous. No other details about this title have been announced.
NBA 2K21
Sony showed off a brief trailer for NBA 2K21. The detail is truly staggering, and it really does give us a bit of a feel for what the next-generation consoles are capable of. It only showed one player dunking, so it didn’t give us a feel for what the gameplay will be like when a full squad is on the court, but it definitely looks exciting.
Bugsnax
A living strawberry with googly eyes greeted us next, only to be eaten in front of our eyes by a talking walrus. We learned that this game, called Bugsnax, is from the creators of Octodad, so we can rest assured that it’ll be weird, interesting, and fun. It’s coming at the end of 2020. It actually gives off Viva Pinata vibes, which is a good thing.
Demon’s Souls
Sony dropped a heavy-hitter towards the end of the show in Demon’s Souls. It looks absolutely absurd, though we didn’t see much in the way of gameplay.
Deathloop
Sony also showed a gameplay demonstration of a stylish action game called Deathloop that’s all about time loops. Your character has an entire island hunting him, and he keeps having to fight them off repeatedly. He needs to kill eight targets before midnight, but not without heavy resistance. It looks incredible. It’s from Arkane studios, the company responsible for Dishonored, so there’s some serious pedigree there.
Resident Evil Village
We now have a trailer for a game called Resident Evil: Village (Resident Evil 8), and it looks about as insane as you’d expect from a new Resident Evil game. Sadly, we need to wait until 2021 to get our hands on this one, but it’ll probably be worth the wait.
The event ended with the game I was hoping to see: a new Horizon entry called Horizon: Forbidden West. Horizon: Zero Dawn was my favorite PS4 game, so I was on the edge of my seat hoping Sony would announce a sequel. The trailer didn’t tell us much, but it did give us a feel for the environment that Aloy would explore, and it looks amazing.
Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the best selling games for the PS4, moving more than 10 million copies since it was released in 2017. The main character Aloy has even become a kind of PlayStation brand ambassador, so it’s fitting to see a brand new title on the updated hardware.
Dying Light 2
The open world survival horror game Dying Light came out more than five years ago, and now a follow up is slated to be one of the first PS5 games. Like many entries on the list, Dying Light 2 will technically be a “cross-generational” title, since it will also be released for the current PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

Still, Dying Light 2’s open world will be a great showcase for the powerful new console’s capabilities. It’s set 15 years after the first game in the series, and features a heavier focus on narrative. Fans will also be happy to learn that Dying Light 2 will also have twice as many parkour moves to help speed your way through the urban apocalypse.
Gods and Monsters
Gods and Monsters was initially scheduled for release in early 2020, but has since been delayed to the next fiscal year. It’s one of three confirmed PS5 games from Ubisoft, although it will come out on current-gen consoles as well. Depending on how long it’s delayed, it may release simultaneously across generations or be staggered by a few months.
Regardless, Gods and Monsters is a kind of artsy, mythological take on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Players can quest and explore in an open-world environment that’s filled with, well, gods and monsters.
Gothic
THQ Nordic’s 2001 action RPG Gothic is a cult classic, even though it never got the international fame and recognition of other Western RPGs like the Elder Scrolls series. Four Gothic games were eventually released, although the last came out nearly a decade ago.

Now, renewed interest (and THQ’s acquisition of Gothic IP) has lead to development of a next-gen remake. THQ Nordic has promised to stay as true to the original as possible, so both returning fans and those new to the series will find something to enjoy. There’s an hour long “playable teaser” available on Steam, so check that out to get a taste of what’s to come.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

Andy Serkis truly brought Gollum to life in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but this upcoming PS5 game finally gives him the spotlight. Developer Daedalic Entertainment scored a licensing deal to expand on the Gollum/Smeagol story in a multi-platform game coming out in 2021.
We don’t know much about the game yet, but Daedalic Entertainment has some experience telling complicated narratives, like its 2017 adaptation of Ken Follett’s The Pillars of Earth. We can’t wait to see how they attempt to make the small creature corrupted by the ring into the protagonist of an action adventure series. Plus, the studio is tapped to create several more games using Tolkien’s famed IP.
Outriders
If you’re tired of developers milking the same IP for far longer than they should, Outriders might be right up your alley. Not too much has been released about the upcoming PS5 game, but we know it’s set on a world called Enoch, where mysterious events have given humanity supernatural powers.
Produced by Square Enix and People Can Fly, Outriders is an ambitious co-op shooter set for Holiday 2020 release on both current and next-gen consoles. That release window might mean it’s also a PS5 launch title, although this is yet to be confirmed.
Rainbow Six Quarantine
Rainbow Six Quarantine is yet another confirmed PS5 game from Ubisoft, although it too has been delayed to the 2021 fiscal year. Like previous games in the series, it’s a squad-based shooter that can be played with up to three players at a time. It will share a lot of similarities with Rainbow Six Siege, including both gameplay and a few operators like Vigil and Ela.
In fact, the entire game was inspired by a Rainbow Six Siege limited game mode called Outbreak. Developers have said that you won’t need to have played Siege to get the full experience, but that should give you an idea of what to expect.
Watch Dogs: Legion
Heavily hyped after it was first announced at E3 2019, Ubisoft’s third confirmed PS5 game Watch Dogs: Legion was initially slated for release in March 2020. That date has come and gone, but the delay means that it will likely land on both current-gen and next gen consoles around the same time.

The slick, ray-tracing enabled trailer revealed a unique game that turns every single NPC into a potential playable character. Recruiting more people with different specialties and abilities to your cause is completely new for the series, but don’t get too attached because if any of them dies they’re gone for good.
WRC 9
Nacon and KT Racing’s follow up to the fantastic WRC 8 racing game has been confirmed as the first in the series to launch on next-gen consoles. In fact, they’re already announced that WRC 9, 10, and 11 will all be coming to the PS5, with the first hitting current-gen consoles and PC on September 3.
WRC 9 will build on what made the previous game great, with an enhanced career mode and more ways to upgrade your team. It will also feature more links to real world championship teams, as well as three new events in Japan, New Zealand, and Kenya.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
The sequel to the cult-favorite vampire RPG is coming for the PS5, via developer Hardsuit Labs and publisher Paradox Interactive. Look for players to take the role of the blood-sucking undead as they prowl the streets of modern-day Seattle.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Ubisoft’s next game in the long-running Assassin’s Creed game series takes it in yet another new direction. This time, the action takes place in Europe, during a fictional invasion of Britain by the Vikings. One Viking warrior finds himself caught in the endless battle between the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Templar Order.
Although the trailer above is for the Xbox Series X, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be a multiplatform release and one of the first PS5 games to hit the market later this year.
Scarlet Nexus
This is an all-new IP from Namco Bandai that will be released for the PS5. It is a sci-fi themed RPG, set in the far future. You will play a psychic warrior recruited to defend humanity against a new threat called the Others.
Expected PS5 games
The Last of Us Part 2
While not yet confirmed for a next-gen release, The Last of Us Part 2 is looking more and more likely to be released as a PS5 game in the near future. Originally scheduled for release May 29, 2020, the current Coronavirus pandemic has put it on an indefinite delay.
The longer the delay continues, the more sense it would make to release the game on the PS5 as well as the PS4. The first game in the series was one of the most popular PlayStation exclusives, so a graphically enhanced version could be a major selling point for Sony’s upcoming console.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
The long awaited FF7 Remake has already hit shelves in certain parts of the world, but we would love to see Cloud and company make the jump to the PlayStation 5.

The first episode of the game only covers part of the story, so it’s virtually guaranteed that the rest of the story (whenever it’s released) will be told on next-gen hardware. Hopefully at the very least progress from episode one will transfer over to future releases.
Battlefield 6
Battlefield 6 is a no brainer for release as a PlayStation 5 game, and indeed EA has already confirmed that it will be released in 2021 or early 2022. Even so, we’re not including it in the confirmed list because the company hasn’t explicitly said it’s coming to the PS5 (but it will, don’t worry).
With the previous two Battlefield games focusing on World Wars, the upcoming title might see a shift back to modern or futuristic combat like Battlefield 4. Either way, expect EA to commit to the same “games as a service” model used in its other popular franchises like FIFA, the Sims, and Apex Legends.
Starfield
The team behind The Elder Scrolls and Fallout take aim at a new horizon with the upcoming single player sci-fi adventure Starfield. First teased way back in 2018, all we know at this point is that it will be released for “next-gen platforms,” but official announcements stop short of naming the PS5 explicitly. That said, Bethesda isn’t known for doing exclusives, so it’s all but guaranteed to hit the PlayStation 5 when released.
Apart from that, we know pretty much nothing about Starfield. We don’t even know if it will have strong RPG elements like previous titles or be something completely different. Still, its developers have been working on it for over a decade and seem pretty excited about it, so we are too.
