Queensland’s digital games sector Screen Queensland has awarded $1.3 million to nine indie studios as part of its latest Games Grants funding round.
The program funds up to $200,000 per round, with a $300,000 lifetime cap. This latest financing will support 12 games and an additional 40 positions for local developers.
New titles from MAXART, Fuzzy Ghost, Spitfire Interactive, and 5 Lives Studio’s Cozy Caravan are included in this round.
Screen Queensland’s 15% Digital Games Incentive is also supporting Spunge Games, Prideful Sloth, and Richard Garfield’s Vanguard Exiles, creating 84 jobs.
Supporting game makers
“Screen Queensland’s investment extends across all levels of the local sector and that is paying dividends, with renewed confidence in our state’s studios and the games they are developing,” said Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney.
“We are proud to be driving a step-change in ambition and opportunity across an industry where Queenslanders can be world leaders in the creation of unique and innovative games.
She added: “After doubling the funding level for Games Grants rounds, we achieved a 133 per cent increase in the number of projects we are now supporting and these indie games are driving real ‘bricks and mortar’ highly skilled technical jobs.”
Applications for the next round of Games Grants will open in early December.
