New Red Dead Redemption early comparison videos were shared online, highlighting some of the visual differences between the original release, the soon-to-be-released PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions, and the enhanced version via Xbox backward compatibility.
The new comparison videos, which were put together by Cycu1, highlight how the new versions of the game do come with some improvements, such as considerably better lighting, even compared to the backward compatible enhanced version, and slightly improved textures. Still, these enhancements are not enough for the first re-release of one of the most popular open-world games ever made, also considering its $49,99 price tag.
Rumors of a proper Red Dead Redemption remaster or remake circulated online for a very long time, and recent updates to the Rockstar Games’ official website suggested that it was indeed coming. Yesterday, however, Rockstar Games indeed announced that their popular open-world game would be coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, but as an almost straight port. Even more disappointing, the game will be skipping PC once again, leaving emulation the only way to enjoy John Marston’s epic journey for redemption for those who don’t want to play on consoles.
Red Dead Redemption launches on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17th. The original version of the game is available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
