EA CEO Andrew Wilson is being considered to succeed Bob Iger as the next Disney boss.
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Wilson is amongst two other external candidates that are being considered to spearhead the entertainment company. The other potential bosses from outside the firm were not named.
Wilson joined EA in 2000 and has been chairman and CEO since 2013. Previously, he served as executive vice president of EA Sports and Origin, overseeing EA Sports globally and leading the publisher’s digital PC service.
Internal candidates being discussed are said to include Disney co-chairs Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro, and Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro.
Possible future partnerships?
Current Disney CEO Bob Iger initially retired in 2020 but returned to lead the company once again in 2022 after his successor, Bob Chapek, was ousted.
Throughout his stint, Iger led major acquisitions including Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 21st Century Fox. He is set to step down in 2026.
A previous Bloomberg report suggested that Disney executives had urged Iger to consider acquiring a major games publisher like EA, aiming to shift Disney from a licensing model to a major industry player with its own first-party capabilities.
