Chinese developer Bluepoch’s time travel gacha game Reverse: 1999 is set to feature a crossover with Ubisoft’s Assassins Creed franchise.
Specifically, Assassin’s Creed II and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey were named in Reverse: 1999’s latest trailer confirming the collab, which is due to introduce content inspired by Ubisoft’s games sometime this year.
The trailer also teased a rewinding of the clock from 1999 to the years 1476 and 431 BC, but whether this means players will actually see events outside of the 20th century — a period forming the crux of Reverse: 1999’s identity — has not yet been confirmed.
Either way, 1476 is a clear reference to Assassin’s Creed II, set during the Italian Renaissance, while 431 BC coincides with the beginning of Odyssey.
Collaborations are coming
The collaboration follows a turbulent 2024 for Ubisoft, mired by cancellations and delays, the stopping and starting of Rainbow Six Mobile and shares collapsing to a 10-year low.
Bluepoch, meanwhile, has found a niche in the RPG market with Reverse: 1999’s focus on “unconventional characters” and “creative freedom”.
The title generated more than $100 million in little over a year, evidently making it an attractive crossover partner for Ubisoft.
While Reverse: 1999’s latest teaser did not reveal any characters or costumes inspired by Assassin’s Creed, the gacha’s collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery last year saw various character alts introduced that drew inspiration from Celtic folklore, Egyptian mythology and more.
Given the nature of Reverse: 1999’s previous crossover, and how many gacha collabs leverage their characters as key money drivers, it is likely that something similar will be seen through Bluepoch’s partnership with the Assassin’s Creed series.
Following the success of its debut game, Bluepoch has also confirmed that an official Reverse: 1999 merch store will launch on January 10th, 2025, set to feature merchandise spanning from Version 1.0 to Version 2.2 of the game.
