David Lynch was one of the most revered filmmakers in Hollywood, with classics such as The Straight Story, Twin Peaks, Eraserhead, and Mulholland Drive credited to his name throughout his nearly 50-year career writing and directing for film and TV. Lynch also directed the first adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel Dune. Unlike Twin Peaks and the aforementioned films, Dune was not well-received in 1984–Lynch himself wasn’t even a fan–but audiences have warmed up to it over the years. If you’re interested in revisiting Lynch’s work or experience it for the first time in the wake of his death last week, Dune remains fascinating and visually impressive 40 years after its release.
David Lynch’s Dune: Special Edition (4K Blu-ray) is on sale for only $25, down from $50, at Walmart. Amazon had this deal earlier today but was sold out at the time of writing. And if you’d like to learn more about the tumultuous production of one of Lynch’s most divisive films, the 560-page oral history of Dune is available for only $20 in hardcover format at Amazon and Walmart.

Arrow Video created the 4K restoration using the original camera negative. It has Dolby Vision and is HDR10 compatible. For the audio, you can choose between the authentic uncompressed stereo sound or DTS-HD MA 5.1 surround sound. The case comes with reversible cover art.
The film also includes a bunch of bonus features, including two new audio commentaries as well as documentaries and featurettes from previous releases.
Dune Bonus Features
- Audio commentary from film historian Paul M. Sammon
- Audio commentary from podcaster Mike White
- Impressions of Dune documentary (2003)
- Designing Dune featurette (2005)
- Dune FX featurette (2005)
- Dune Models and Miniatures featurette (2005)
- Dune Costumes featurette (2005)
- Destination Dune featurette (1983)

That’s a pretty great lineup of bonus features–so even if you’ve seen the film a dozen times, the additional featurettes and audio commentaries are likely worth the low price of $25.
If you don’t mind HD resolution, you’ll find the standard Dune Blu-ray listed for only $9.
$20.60 (was $30)
Fans of Lynch’s take on Dune–and anyone interested in the production of Hollywood movies in general–can pair the 4K Blu-ray with A Masterpiece in Disarray, a 2023 oral history of the film. This gorgeously designed hardcover book and clocks in at 560 pages. The book is on sale for $20.60 at Amazon and Walmart, which is roughly 33% off its $30 list price.
The comprehensive book took years to compile, and it offers an in-depth look at the creation of David Lynch’s Dune. Film writer Max Evry pieced together this book over multiple years and conducted interviews with Lynch, the cast, the production crew, movie executives, and industry insiders.
A Masterpiece in Disarray has foil-gilded edges and a black satin ribbon bookmark. While the image above shows red page edges, it’s possible the copy you receive will have blue edges. The listing specifies that only the first printing had red edges, while the second printing has blue. Regardless, this is a limited-edition book from a boutique publisher, so fans should pick it up while they can.
There’s clearly increased demand for the book at the moment, as Amazon estimates orders placed now won’t ship for two to three weeks. If you order Walmart’s matching deal, your book will arrive at the end of January or early February, depending on your location. Shipping estimates vary by region and are only accurate as of January 23–make sure to check the listings before you order.
