New Rise of the Ronin gameplay footage was shown during yesterday’s State of Play, providing a new look at some of the game’s features and mechanics.
The new Gameplay Overview, which can be watched in full below, provides a new look at open-world traversal and combat mechanics, which look like an evolution of the combat systems seen in recent games by Team Ninja like the Nioh series and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. The new footage also showcases how choices will impact the story, as players will be able to decide which NPCs to side with. More information on the game’s choice mechanics can be found on the PlayStation Blog, detailed by Game Director Fumihiko Yasuda, who also directed the aforementioned Nioh series.
Rise of the Ronin is set in Japan at the end of the 19th century, a period of turmoil for the country with the fall of the Tokugawa Shogunate. During the course of the adventure, players will be able to interact with historical figures, traverse a big open world using a horse and a glider, fight all sorts of enemies using close-range and ranged weapons, and more.
Rise of the Ronin launches on March 22nd on PlayStation 5 worldwide.
