Roblox experience creator Talewind has laid off a “significant number” of employees as a result of restructuring efforts.
The decision was made “with a heavy heart” but ultimately adds to the growing list of industry-wide job losses in recent years.
Talewind will be supporting its former employees in finding new work opportunities.
Major impacts
Talewind’s workforce consists of up to 50 people, and though the exact number of employees laid off is unknown, the impacts of the restructuring were described as “significant”.
Even Talewind co-founder and COO Georgina Allender-Manners’ role has been affected, meaning she is now looking for new work.
Allender-Manners helped found the studio – which works with companies to develop branded games and integrations on Roblox – during the height of the pandemic in 2021, helping to secure funding, scout talent and scale the business.
Now Talewind claims to be in the top 0.01% of monetised experience makers on Roblox, with games like Chicken Royale, Raft Life Tycoon, Sword Factory X and Breezy Bay in its portfolio.
Significant impacts
“It is with a heavy heart we announce that Talewind is undergoing a period of restructure, which unfortunately means a significant number of our team are going to be impacted,” Talewind posted on LinkedIn.
“We are doing everything we can to support those affected find new opportunities but if you are a recruiter, talent specialist, studio head or someone with the ability to support further, please reach out to Georgina Allender-Manners. Our team are incredibly talented, passionate and versatile and will make an invaluable addition to any future studio they join.”
Allender-Manners herself also took to the platform, posting: “It goes without saying that these decisions were not made lightly. I have had the pleasure of working with the most incredible team over the past four years and would recommend them highly to anyone that has the pleasure of interviewing them.
“I will also be on the lookout for my next opportunity as my role was also impacted.”
The games industry’s post-pandemic recalibration has made it one of the toughest periods in the sector’s history, with thousands laid off in the past year alone.
