Just days before CES officially kicks off, Roku has announced the logical next step to its 4K UHD Select and Plus Series TVs: the 4K UHD Roku Pro Series. Coming this spring, the Pro Series will be available in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch flavors.
At first glance, the specs for the Pro Series are impressive. Color should be accurate thanks to quantum dots, the dimming is mini-LED full-array for better black and local contrast, and there are enhancements to the sound.
The Pro Series will, of course, feature one of our favorite TV operating systems, along with Roku’s second-to-none, extremely broad streaming platform and curated content.
The Pro Series TVs sport a thin design, and if the pictures are indicative, the panel should sit nicely on your wall.
The outstanding Pro Series feature in terms of processing is Smart Picture, which automatically adjusts the picture to match the TV’s image settings with the content on screen. As not everyone has the same taste, we’re assuming Smart Picture will be an optional setting.
Beyond what we’ve mentioned, details about the technology in Roku’s new Pro Series TVs was in short supply. Given our admiration for Roku’s lower-tier TVs, we expecting we’ll like the Pro Series, too, although the proof’s in the pudding.
No firm pricing was set, but Roku did promise that retail prices will be “under $1,500,” which should make them more than competitive with other quantum-dot TVs.
In a side note, Roku announced greater retail availability of the existing Select and Plus series, which is business speak for more outlets carrying the brand.
