5G isn’t just for phones. Samsung on Wednesday announced the Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+, the first 5G-capable tablets hitting the US this fall. Starting at $649 for the Tab S7 and $849 for the Tab S7+, they look like healthy competition to Apple’s iPad Pro line.
As you can see from the images, the new Galaxy Tab S7 slates look nearly identical to last year’s Tab S6. Both sport an aluminum chassis and frame and have a magnetic strip for the included S Pen stylus.
Latency on the updated S Pen has been reduced to just 9ms—the same as it is using the Apple Pencil with the iPad Pro. There’s also an updated Book Cover Keyboard with improved trackpad gestures that will be sold separately.
The front of the Tab S7 features an 11-inch, 2,560-by-1,600-pixel LTPS TFT screen with a variable 120Hz refresh rate. The Tab S7+, meanwhile, sports a 12.4-inch, 2,800-by-1,752 Super AMOLED display with a variable 120Hz refresh rate. The S7+ also features an in-display fingerprint sensor, while the S7’s sensor is located on the side of the tablet.

The camera setup is the same for both versions of the Tab S7. The rear camera stack includes a 13MP primary sensor and a 5MP ultra-wide lens, while the front-facing camera clocks in at 8MP.
Both tablets are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset and are available in 6GB RAM/128GB storage and 8GB RAM/256GB storage configurations, with support for up to an additional 1TB of external storage with a microSD card
Battery capacity on the Tab S7 clocks in at 8,000mAh, while the Tab S7+ packs a larger 10,090mAh battery. 45W fast charging is supported on both models, though you’ll need to purchase a compatible adapter.

When it comes to connectivity, the tablets will be available in Wi-Fi, LTE, and 5G variants. Exact details are likely to vary by carrier and region, and we should learn more details as we get closer to the official launch date.
The duo will ship with Android 10, though an Android 11 update at some point in the future is likely in the cards. Samsung’s latest One UI software layer includes a wireless DeX Mode, a Nearby Share feature that allows you to share files with close contacts, and real-time syncing between Samsung’s suite of productivity apps and Microsoft OneDrive, OneNote, and Outlook.
