Samsung has announced a limited edition collection of sustainable watch bands for the Galaxy Watch4, two of which are manufactured using apple peel skins.
The six new bands are called Stratus Sky, Cloud Navy, Midnight Black, Aurora Night, Dawn Atlas, and Earth Sunrise. Both Stratus Sky and Midnight Black are made from apple peel skin recovered from the fruit industry which treats it as a waste product. Samsung says using apple peel allows for the creation of bands that have the look of premium leather while also being “completely vegan and cruelty free.”
The other four bands in the collection use an eco-friendly and non-toxic thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). Samsung guarantees there’s no Dimethylformamide (DMF) in the final products, which is easily abosrbed through the skin if present and can cause serious health problems. When it comes time to replace your smartwatch or watch band, these sustainable bands can easily be recycled.
“I am proud that we sourced sustainable materials for the entire collection. My designs were inspired by the beauty of our planet and I want the collection to serve as a reminder to stay mindful and connected to the Earth,” said Sami Miró.
The bands are called the Galaxy Watch4 x Sami Miró Vintage sustainable watchband collection and are available directly from Samsung. Prices start at $39.99, but there’s only a limited quantity available so don’t take too long deciding which one to buy. It’s also possible to download three complimentary watch faces from the Google Play store.
