Mobile games developer and publisher Sandsoft continues to grow with a new office expansion in Barcelona.
This comes after the company opened its first Barcelona office in December 2023 led by Alexandre Besenval who joined Sandsoft as VP Studio Barcelona. The studio – located in San Antoni in the heart of Barcelona and which boasts 200 square metres of space and a rooftop terrace – is now home to 30 employees and is growing.
Moving up
Pasqual Batalla, COO, Sandsoft said: “Sandsoft’s move to a larger office in Barcelona marks a significant milestone in our journey to becoming a leading game publisher and developer. This expansion is a direct result of the tremendous growth we’ve experienced, driven by our team’s commitment to excellence and the outstanding talent we’ve been able to bring on board. It also reinforces the company’s decision to establish a strong presence in the city that has become one of the main European videogames hubs.”
Alexandre Besenval, the head of Barcelona Studio, Sandsoft said: “I want to extend my deepest thanks to our Talent Acquisition team for their relentless efforts in attracting and onboarding top talent who share our vision. This new space will not only accommodate our growing team at the Barcelona Studio but also serve as a launchpad for the innovative games we are developing.
“We are excited about the future and confident that the games we create will captivate players globally, ensuring our success for years to come.”
Engaging with new markets
We recently caught up with Sandsoft CEO David Fernandez Remesal who spoke to us on why Barcelona is an ideal area for growth.
“Over the next few years, we’re planning to grow the Barcelona team to 60 members, so we naturally need to find the right talent to achieve that goal.
“A Barcelona studio allows us to engage with the high calibre of mobile-first talent based in the city and connect with the thriving development scene locally.”
“With four in five Spaniards being game enthusiasts, having a Spanish presence lets us closely engage with this market as well as move closer to the growing LATAM region,” said Fernandez.
Sandsoft’s entry into game development in Barcelona follows a trend of top developers and publishers that have established studios in the Spanish city including Scopely, TripleDot, Rovio and FunPlus and NetEase.
