Upgrading the internal storage on the PS5 or Xbox Series consoles isn’t cheap, but it looks as though Xbox owners may soon be able to save $70 by purchasing a smaller expansion card.
As Windows Central reports, Seagate is thought to be preparing a 500GB version of its Expansion Card for release to sit alongside the existing 1TB card. The discovery of this cheaper card was made by French website XboxSquad, who obtained documents referencing a 500GB version. That was followed by French retailer Micromania listing the new card with for 155 euros. In the US, that’s likely to be $150.
With the 1TB Expansion Card costing $220, saving $70 for half the capacity may not seem like the best deal, but $150 is a lot easier to stomach than $220 and is probably going to add enough extra storage for most Xbox owners. This card would also make it possible to purchase an Xbox Series S and match the 1TB Series X on storage without costing more than the Series X. A Series S together with the 500GB Expansion Card totals $450 compared to the $500 price tag of the Series X.
The retail listing suggests the smaller card will launch imminently. It also makes sense to offer a cheaper storage upgrade option in the run up to the holiday season. Buying an expansion card, regardless of the storage capacity is probably going to be much easier than locating stock of either console, though.
