Actor Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin/Darth Vader in the Star Wars series, is also a huge fan of ice hockey and specifically the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs have not had much success in the playoffs in recent times, so when the Leafs beat the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday to advance to the second round for the first time since 2004, Christensen was very excited.
The actor was at the Calgary Expo on Saturday as the game was unfolding. Someone in the crowd shouted out to him to let him know the Leafs won. Against his own better judgment and believing it to be a curse, Christensen decided to wear a Leafs hat during his appearance at the Calgary Expo. Having done that in the past, it hasn’t gone well for him, but this year it did. The look of pure joy on Christensen’s face as he’s informed that the Leafs moved on is very nice to see.
The Leafs won in overtime on April 29 off a goal from John Tavares to beat the Lightning by a score of 2-1. The Lightning were favored to win the series, but the Leafs took it 4-2.
As mentioned, the Leafs have not had much luck in the playoffs in recent years, but now they are moving ahead to the second round for the first time in 19 years. They will face the Florida Panthers, who pulled off their own huge upset over the Boston Bruins on Sunday night, in Round 2, which begins on May 2.
If all of this has you excited or at least interested in ice hockey video games, NHL 23 is now included on Xbox Game Pass for Ultimate subscribers via EA Play.
Christensen is best known for playing Anakin and Darth Vader in the Star Wars series. He reprised his role as Darth Vader in the limited series Obi-Wan alongside Ewan McGregor. Christensen is coming back to play Vader again in the upcoming Star Wars series Ahsoka.
