After many years of development and countless delays, Skull and Bones has finally arrived. One of the most challenging world events you’ll encounter is Maangodin, an intimidating ghost ship boss you’ll do battle with in the open seas to the east of the Red Isle. This battle is not only a tough challenge, but it will reward you with specialized crafting materials and Ethereal Ashes, a very limited special currency used to purchase certain items. But how do you find Maangodin and take it down? Don’t worry, here’s everything you need to know in order to kill this ghost ship all over again…
- Step 1 – Head to the Oubliette Outpost in the southern oceans to the east of the Red Isle.
- Step 2 – Talk to the Mysterious Rogue there and accept the “Oceans Apart” side contract from them. This will spawn Maangodin on the map not far to the east of the Oubliette Outpost. Appropriately, the ghost ship only appears at night – you’ll know it by its distinctive blue glow. I’d suggest your ship be at least a level 8 or 9 to tackle this fight.
Note: You can replay the “Oceans Apart” contract ever day in real time if you want to farm Maangodin for materials and Ethereal Ashes. In between the mission refreshing, you can also just sail around the southern ocean area and you might get reports of a “strange sighting” of Maangodin – head to the target location to fight the ghost ship again.
How to beat Maangodin
It pays to come prepared – have lots of repair kits on hand and see if you can’t get some friends to team up with you for the fight, as Maangodin is really meant to be a co-op challenge. Overall, the ghost ship is more challenging to take down than the Kuharibu sea monster boss.
Unlike most other ships in the game, Maangodin is only vulnerable if you hit its red weak spots. Regular shots to the rest of the ship won’t hurt it. Low level weapons are also pretty much useless against it – make sure they’re level 3 and above. Bombards and mortars are good weapons to use for this battle, as they have a wide area-of-effect, which means you don’t have to be super precise about hitting those weak spots. Have patience (Maangodin has a lot of life), stick and move, and don’t get hit by the big flame thrower on the ghost ship’s bow and you’ll eventually come out on top.
Once you’ve defeated Maangodin head back to the Mysterious Rogue in Oubliette and you can trade in the “Tarnished Ring” item for silver and the “Ethereal Ashes” currency for various exclusive items.
Skull and Bones can be played on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. You can check out Wccftech’s other Skull and Bones guides here.
