Netmarble’s action RPG Solo Leveling: Arise is celebrating its six-month anniversary with over 50 million installs across PC and mobile.
According to AppMagic estimates, Solo Leveling: Arise has accumulated $138.9 million in gross revenue from mobile players during the period, with true mobile earnings likely higher when including revenues from alternative app stores.
Mechanics and models
Netmarble’s latest hit launched globally on May 8th, 2024 and currently has multiple limited-time events and rewards available to celebrate the six-month milestone, encouraging player retention with daily log-in bonuses.
As of today, November 14th, players can also claim a free crafting ticket for an artefact of their choosing and participate in the Weapon Growth Tournament and Artifact Growth Tournament to earn points towards an exclusive Half-Year Celebration SSR Hunter Selection Ticket and more.
This celebratory ticket allows players to directly choose a hunter from a pool of characters, for whom fans would typically roll the dice in the game’s gacha system – a key element of its monetisation model.
One example of this model in practice is July 31st, when daily mobile revenue spiked by 73% to $714,000.
This coincided with the release of Amamiya Mirei in a gacha banner that made the teenage sword fighter – also the main protagonist in the game’s Hunter: Origin 3rd story – a playable character, though her appearance rate was 0.6%.
Revenue’s not rising
Solo Leveling: Arise’s banner-based peaks and troughs aren’t as stark as other recent gacha games like Wuthering Waves or Atelier Resleriana, but its monthly earnings have fallen considerably since launch. Revenue has declined month-on-month ever since release, peaking on mobile in May at $58.9 million.
The title fell to $30.8 million gross on mobile in June and more recently, made just $7 million in the month of October.
Player spending is falling in South Korea particularly, with players in the country contributing 30% of Solo Leveling: Arise’s lifetime mobile revenue, but only 22% over the last month. Japan’s spending was also slightly below average, at 19% versus its overall 20% contribution.
