SEGA is said to be working on a Sonic Heroes Remake within Unreal Engine 5.
That’s what the usually well-informed has suggested on X when asking if players would like to replay the 2003 title in Epic’s latest game engine. This ‘suggestion’ was later backed by known Atlus/SEGA leaker ‘Midori’, who posted that the Sonic Heroes Remake in Unreal Engine 5 is “correct”. ‘Midori’ has recently been quite vocal on X about SEGA’s upcoming remakes and reboots, including the new Jet Set Radio, Crazi Taxi, Golden Axe, and more. All of these titles are said to be coming to Nintendo’s Switch 2 platform. In addition, the leaker claimed that a new Virtua Fighter is currently in development with support for crossplay and rollback net code.

Released in late 2003 for consoles and PC, many consider Sonic Heroes one of the best entries in the franchise. We’ve included a part of the press release from 2003 below:
Sonic Heroes is an adventure and multiplatform video game in the Sonic The Hedgehog series, developed by Sonic Team and published by SEGA for the Nintendo GameCube, Sony PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox and Microsoft Windows PCs.
The player races a team of series characters through levels to amass rings, defeat robots, and collect the seven Chaos Emeralds needed to defeat Doctor Eggman. This game differs from other Sonic games by allowing the player to take control of one of four teams, each with three characters, who each have unique abilities to use. The game received mixed reviews from critics but it performed commercially well, becoming a million-seller and making the best-selling lists for all three of its original platforms.
Join Team Sonic, Team Dark, Team Rose and Team Chaotix in a multiplatform adventure! Run, Fly, use your Power, grind, swing through 7 different levels with unique paths, fighting evil and solving puzzles for each team.
As always with these kinds of rumors, please take the information above with a pinch of salt for now as SEGA hasn’t officially confirmed the existence of a Sonic Heroes remake. We’ll update you as soon as more information about this rumored remake comes in.
