Rumors emerged earlier this past weekend, and now Sony itself has confirmed it – a new PlayStation State of Play showcase will be coming our way this week. It sounds like this will be a big one, as Sony is promising to deliver a 40-minute-plus show (most State of Plays are more in the 15-to-20-minute range) covering 15 games. In their announcement, Sony singles out Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade as two games that they’re specifically focusing on.

“Hi everyone, 2024 has just begun and it’s already time for our very first State of Play! The broadcast will be over 40 minutes long, and feature guest appearances from some of the most talented minds in gaming. Among many other updates, we’ll feature extended looks at Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, two great games coming to PS5 this year. And we’ll give you a new look at other titles coming to PS5 and PS VR2 in 2024 and beyond.”
While Sony only mentions Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade by name, those rumors from this past weekend also hinted we might see more of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Death Stranding 2, the Silent Hill 2 remake, an Until Dawn remaster, Judas, and more.
Another source has also claimed we’ll get a closer look at the upcoming Firewalk Studios multiplayer game Concord. Word is, the game is taking inspiration from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, with a sci-fi theme and lots of colorful characters. Thus far, Sony’s push into live service games hasn’t gone over too well, but perhaps this one will be better received.
The big State of Play will be streamed live this Wednesday (January 31) at 2pm PT. So, what do you think? What are you looking forward to seeing during the show? Do you think Sony has any big surprises up their proverbial sleeve? Or do we already more or less know the shape of 2024 for PlayStation?
