It’s been almost a year since Sony unveiled the Xperia Pro last February. The 5G mmWave capable flagship boasts the same specs as its Xperia 1 II cousin, except for the aforementioned 5G connectivity. Now it seems that Sony is finally ready to unleash the Xperia Pro, as some folks at Xperia Blog have noticed firmware files starting to appear on Sony’s servers (US-specific firmware with build number 58.0.A.9.116, suggesting a US exclusive release).
There are some other extras over the current flagship – there’s an HDMI micro connector (Type D) that allows you to directly connect your camera, and also a dedicated shortcut key to quickly launch certain apps. The antenna design in the Xperia Pro has been reimagined – it’s a new 360-degree design that offers optimal signal strength.
Judging from the firmware files, though, the Xperia Pro will launch with Android 10 out of the box (sadly, no Android 11 goodness) and also the September 2020 Android security patch. The Xperia Pro comes equipped with a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display and last year’s Qualcomm flagship chipset – the Snapdragon 865.
