Veteran actor Christopher Plummer, known for his roles in The Sound of Music, The Insider, A Beautiful Mind, and many more films, has died. He was 91.
Plummer died at his Connecticut home with his wife by his side. Plummer’s longtime manager, Lou Pitt, told Deadline: “Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self deprecating humor and the music of words. He was a National Treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us.”
Plummer appeared in more than 100 films across his 75-year career. He is perhaps best known for portraying Captain John Von Trapp in the 1965 classic The Sound of Music. He was nominated for three Academy Awards in his career, winning the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award in 2010 for the movie Beginners. He replaced Kevin Spacey mid-production on the movie All The Money In The World, and he earned an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of J Paul Getty. Most recently, Plummer played a central role in Rian Johnson’s Oscar-nominated film Knives Out.
In addition to a long and successful career in film, Plummer won two Tony Awards for his roles in the stage places Cyrano and Barrymore.
