It’s not the rumored “not so slim” console redesign, but Sony has announced a stylish new PlayStation 5 bundle will be hitting shelves in September. The Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition Bundle includes a slick new black-and-red PS5, emblazoned with the Spider symbol and black Venom-inspired tendrils. The PS5 also comes with a similarly-stylish new red-and-black DualSense controller, and a digital copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. You can scope out the new hardware for yourself in the trailer, below.
“We were thrilled to debut these stunning designs to our fans today because of how they capture the look and feel of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Venom and the symbiote will be one of the most formidable challenges that our two Spider-Men will face in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This is why we wanted to reflect the intensity of the symbiote and its capacity for transformation and power with a takeover design for the PS5 console and DualSense wireless controller.”
Looking pretty sweet! I haven’t really been wowed by most PS5 special editions, but this one’s definitely a looker. Insomniac Games art director Jacinda Chew had the following to say about the design…
“The design was inspired by the in-game symbiote that’s taking over the console and controller, but you can still see some of the underlying red under the tendrils. This represents the various ways players will experience the symbiote takeover in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It’s a constant push and pull for dominance whether it’s internal or external and the outcome is not certain.”
Sony has not announced a price for the Spider-Man 2 Limited-Edition PS5 yet, but expect to pay a small premium. That copy of Spider-Man 2 won’t be free, either. That said, what if you already own a PS5, but want to give it a Spidey makeover? No worries! Sony is generously selling the new Spider-Man 2 face plates as a standalone product, so you can superpower your PS5 without dropping a bomb.
Pre-orders for the Spider-Man 2 Limited-Edition PS5 kick off on July 28 via the PlayStation store and other retailers. The console officially hits shelves on September 1, but expect them to disappear quickly.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches on PS5 on October 20. What do you think? Anybody out there planning to finally upgrade to the PS5 for Spidey 2? Are you going to try to nab a limited-edition machine?
