Spider-Man is always getting the snot beaten out of himself. That’s kind of his thing. Even so, Spider-Man: No Way Home is promising to be darker than we’re used to despite the promised multiversal roller-coaster ride, star Tom Holland said in a new interview with Total Film.
“What people will be really surprised about is that it’s not fun, this film,” Holland said. “It’s dark and sad, and it’s going to be really affecting. You’re going to see characters that you love go through things that you would never wish for them to go through. And I was just really excited to kind of lean into that side of Peter Parker.”
“Peter Parker is always someone who’s looking up. He’s always really positive,” Holland continued. “Whereas in this film, he feels like he’s met his match.”
Thanks to all that, Holland says this is the best of the MCU Spider-Man films so far.
“It’s the best Spider-Man film that we’ve ever made. I really don’t think fans are at all ready for what they’ve put together. I know that I’m not ready, and I know that it’s going to be brutal.”
Spider-Man: No Way Home premieres December 17, 2021. The film promises to pit Spidey against a whole ton of villains, including villains Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, and The Amazing Spider-Man. Holland confirmed in the same interview that Jamie Foxx’s Electro, featured in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will appear in the film as well. In addition to Spidey, Holland’s Uncharted film is on the way. Meanwhile, Disney recently delayed the entire 2022 slate of MCU films.
