Spotify is introducing a new design today, and with it offering a “cohesive look and feel” across both its desktop app and web player.
The redesign hasn’t happened quickly, with Spotify explaining, “It took months of tests and research, talking to users, and gathering feedback” before the finished product was launched this week. The end result is a new look spread across both the desktop and web experiences, which the music streaming service claims offers refined navigation alongside improved search functionality.
Spotify also improved playlist creation and control. Playlists can now more easily be tailored with the “ability to write descriptions, upload images, drag and drop tracks into existing playlists,” and adding new songs and podcasts is made easier via an embedded search bar. There’s also a dropdown menu in the desktop app offering new sorting options for your library of songs, as well as options to edit the playlist queue and view recently played songs. Premium subscribers benefit from a download button offering offline playback for when there’s no connection or you’re simply saving on bandwidth.
The new desktop app is being made available though the Microsoft Store and Epic Games Store for Windows users, while Mac users can download it directly from the Spotify website. The design update is rolling out globally, but Spotify says it’s going to take a few weeks before all users have access to it.
