Two days after the game’s launch, the first Street Fighter 6 VR Mod is already available on PC. It is all thanks to the excellent RE Framework, a modding platform developed for all RE Engine games.
Creator Praydog has just released a new version (1.5.1) that adds official support for Street Fighter 6 and Resident Evil 4. To install the Street Fighter 6 VR mod, just download the RE Framework for the game, extract the downloaded file into the game folder, and make sure to have SteamVR (or OpenXR on a supported headset) installed.
Do note that while the Street Fighter 6 VR mod uses synced eye rendering, the game and animations are hard-locked at 60 fps (as I mentioned in my performance test with the game), which is definitely suboptimal if you’re running any 90+ Hz VR headset. According to the folks from the Flatscreen-to-VR Discord channel, a better option may be to run at 60 Hz or at 120 Hz with Asynchronous Spacewarp enabled.
As you can see in the demo video below, the Street Fighter 6 VR mod doesn’t focus on delivering first-person gameplay as that would be quite problematic (not to mention highly conducive to motion sickness). Instead, players will watch the fights as if they were a spectator on the sidelines. Of course, the effect cannot really be replicated in a YouTube video, so you’ll have to download the mod and try it for yourself to see what it really looks like.
Street Fighter 6 launched on June 2nd to rave reviews. It got a perfect score from Wccftech’s Francesco De Meo:
Back when I tried Street Fighter 6 for the first time during last year’s first beta, I had the feeling I had played something special, and the final version of the game only confirmed these feelings. With its excellent play modes, attention to accessibility, almost flawless online experience, and incredible game and character design, Street Fighter 6 is not only one of the best entries in the series but one of the best fighting games ever made, a game that is more than worthy of a perfect score.
The game then proceeded to break concurrent player records on Steam for a premium fighting game.
