Super Mario RPG, Nintendo’s upcoming remake of the 1996 classic, has leaked online and people are already playing the game on PC.
Some hours ago, Switch miner ‘OatMealDome’, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share that next week’s remake has leaked, running on the Unity Engine. On other social media, we already saw similar reports of the game being out in the wild. Due to obvious reasons, we won’t be sharing links to these reports, but as always, Google is your best friend. Following this leak, we have now found various posts on both Reddit and YouTube of people emulating the game on PC through the popular Yuzu and Ryujinx PC Switch emulators.
Based on what we’ve read about the game being emulated, there are still some audio issues, especially via Yuzu, but Ryujinx appears to be able to successfully run the game with solid performance. There do appear to be some issues with stuttering audio in Ryujinx, but changing background music settings appears to work for some. Also, Mario RPG seems to run on Steam Deck using Ryujinx with close to 60FPS.
As most of you will know, this isn’t the first time that a Switch game has leaked online ahead of its global launch – The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was already being played on PC as well, and the same happened with the recently-released Mario Bros. Wonder.
Super Mario RPG launches next week on November 17 for the Nintendo Switch. The remake was officially announced during the June 203 Direct. The title is a full HD polygonal remake of the 1996 Classic for the SNES.
“Super Mario RPG: Originally only released in Japan and North America on Super NES, the game has been overhauled with new graphics. Join Mario, Bowser, Princess Peach, and original characters Mallow and Geno, in an RPG filled with twists, turns and treasure. Mario must team up with his allies to face down a menacing force known as The Smithy Gang in order to recover seven stars and repair the Star Road. Whether you played the original game or have yet to take the journey, you can dive into this Nintendo Switch version of the very first RPG in the Super Mario series.”
