Super Nintendo World was supposed to open this summer ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, but like so many other things, COVID-19 required a delay.
Now, Nintendo has confirmed that the theme park at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka will open in spring 2021, just before the rescheduled Tokyo Summer Olympics.
Mario and Luigi will of course be featured prominently in the design of shops, restaurants, and rides, including a Super Mario Kart attraction. For an in-game experience, visitors will be able to collect virtual coins around the park using a “Power Up Band” smart wristband.
If you just can’t wait until early 2021 for your Mario Kart fix, a new Mario and Luigi cafe is opening on Oct. 16 at Universal Studios Japan, just in time for Mario’s 35th anniversary
After recent news that Mario Kart could positively impact your love life, maybe you should head to Super Nintendo World with a significant other. A US version of the theme park could be arriving in Orlando in 2023.
Before you make travel plans, note that Japan currently has restrictions on entry by anyone arriving from more than 150 countries or regions, the US and UK included.
