Just in case those latest scientific reports put together by Ookla and Opensignal didn’t make it clear enough, T-Mobile is touting and highlighting its national 5G supremacy once again today with a mind-blowing and absolutely competition-destroying new stat.
No less than 300 million people across the US are now (theoretically) covered by Magenta’s Ultra Capacity 5G signal, and for folks unfamiliar with the company’s marketing jargon, we should probably point out that’s actually the name given to T-Mo’s mid-band 5G network alone.
If that makes you more confused, let us further clarify that mid-band (or Ultra Capacity) is the faster 5G flavor rolled out and expanded at an incredible pace by the “Un-carrier” over the last couple of years or so. Meanwhile, the slower low-band technology that was the initial foundation of T-Mobile‘s “nationwide” 5G network is now available for “more than 330 million people or 98% of the population” in the US under the Extended Range brand.
Both the 300 and 330 million milestones are of course unbelievably impressive numbers, but what makes the latest Ultra Capacity 5G achievement that much more remarkable is that it has happened well ahead of schedule.
Although it may have seemed ambitious (or even completely unrealistic) at first, that was the goal set for the end of 2023, and with two months to go until Christmas, T-Mo is already prepared to start celebrating.
After conquering the nation and gaining an advantage over Verizon and AT&T that T-Mobile describes as simply insurmountable, you might think that the next aim will be a world title. But incredibly enough, Magenta is already a global 5G availability champion as well, making some of you wonder what’s left to fight for.
The answer, of course, is the 5G speed crown, which remains out of T-Mo’s reach on a world scale. Nationally, that title is also in the bag and pretty much impossible to take away, at least in the foreseeable future.
