Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios has opened a new development studio in Japan.
The company said its new Tokyo and Osaka-based teams will focus on developing “original triple-A action game titles” to fuel its global expansion efforts.
Lightspeed Japan studio will work on multi-platform, cross-device projects, though it did not specify exactly what platforms this will entail.
Experienced game director Hideaki Itsuno will helm Lightspeed’s Japan studio. He’s known for his work on Street Fighter Alpha, Rival Schools, Power Stone, Capcom VS. SNK, Devil May Cry, and Dragon’s Dogma.
Lightspeed has offices around the world, including in China, the United States, Singapore, Canada, the UK, United Arab Emirates and other countries.
It has developed more than 50 games across platforms, amassing four billion registered players. Its portfolio includes multi-billion dollar hit PUBG Mobile and is currently working on triple-A open-world title Last Sentinel.
