Today, Frictional Games announced the availability of a new ‘Halloween’ free update for Amnesia: The Bunker. The patch adds major features to the game for those who’ve already finished their first playthrough, including a Shell Shock difficulty and a Custom Mode where players may tweak more than 30 settings and parameters to achieve the desired horror experience. Other features include:
-
New creature behaviors that increase unpredictability.
-
Sublevel Fuse System – Restore electricity to turn on the lights in each of the Bunker’s zones.
-
Hardcore Health System – Lose health while bleeding, bandages stop bleeding but don’t restore health, and medkits stop bleeding and restore health.
-
More Randomization – Lockers and their combinations are in random locations.
-
Saving Progress Costs Fuel.
-
Locked Fuel Storage Room – the unlimited supply of fuel, and already difficult-to-access resource, is now locked and has its own combination located somewhere in the Bunker.
-
Revolver locked in storage locker, and not available from the start.
-
The Safe Room is no longer safe.
-
New Training Grounds level for you to practice your skills.
Amnesia: The Bunker is the fourth entry in Frictional’s horror franchise. It launched on June 6th following several delays. The game earned a 9 out of 10 score in Wccftech’s review penned by Ule Lopez:
As I said before, horror is evolving, changing. Whether this approach will be a better way to address some of the problems it has faced over the years entirely depends on the audience’s reception. But in my opinion, Amnesia: The Bunker has become one of the best horror games and a step in the right direction for horror experiences in the future. With how amazing the Resident Evil 4 Remake was and how great experimental games in the indie space, such as Endoparasitic, are, I can say that this year will be great for horror games, even in times of change.
