Wearing a pair of headphones endorsed by The Rock certainly won’t make you look like Dwayne Johnson after a workout, but they may help keep you in the gym longer due to their impressive battery life.
As Engadget reports, Johnson has released the Under Armour Project Rock Over-Ear Training Headphones, which are engineered by JBL. They are designed for “rugged durability” for those intense workouts we’ve all been doing regularly during the pandemic, and are IPX4 rated. You won’t be easily distracted either, thanks to the inclusion of adaptive noise cancellation (ANC). And as for that battery life, expect up to 45 hours on a single charge, with a full recharge taking two hours.
Under Armour provided two different types of fabric for use in the headphones. First there’s UA Storm Super Grip, which offers stability and stops the headphones sliding off your head. The second is called SuperVent and is used for the cushions, which are both fast-drying and breathable to help keep your temperature under control. Sweat is always going to be an issue with workout headphones, so it’s good to hear the cushions can be removed and washed (by hand).
If anyone dares to interrupt your gym session, you will be able to hear them say sorry. JBL included two sound technologies called Ambient Aware and TalkThru Technology. Ambient Aware allows ambient noise to be heard when music is playing, and TalkThru automatically lowers music volume and amplifies speech to allow for conversation. Together these two bits of tech are referred to as “Bionic Hearing.”
The Project Rock headphones can be purchased directly from JBL or Under Armour for $299.95. Included in the box is a utility case, a Type-C USB cable, AUX cable, Brahma bull sticker, and a 12-month UA MapMyFitness premium membership.
